EWBF Secretary’s Report 2023.
With Newark Indoor Bowling Club suddenly closing, the year started with a quick decision as to where we could hold the Indoor Championships, and after a discussion with Lincoln Indoor Bowls Club, they were very pleased to allow us to hold the Championships at Lincoln.
Lincoln. President Elaine Haddon-Holmes opened the Finals which commenced with The Harry Carver Ladies Team Competition. This was won by Norfolk by just half a point with Huntingdonshire runners up. During the week some wonderful bowls was played by the competitors in all the competition and after many late nights the Championships finally came to a conclusion on Sunday.
The Stuart Waites trophy was shared by Huntingdonshire and Lincolnshire.
We have finally started to enjoy the 2023 outdoor season. The Donald Steward and the Silver Jubilee Vase matches this season were a very close fight in all sections. The outdoor competitions were organised and took place with the winners playing in the National Finals at Skegness.
Skegness 2023.The National finals now complete and it was wonderful to see fellow bowlers again. A full entry in the individual competitions with many duplications. The week started with the team games, in the Donald Steward, Humberside v Suffolk, and the Silver Vase, Lincolnshire v Suffolk. Both matches were excellent with Humberside winning the Donald Steward and Suffolk winning the Silver Jubilee Vase. With all the problems scheduling owing to many players being in up to 5 events the week started well and the organisation of the programme by Dave was first class and he put in many late hours to have a program ready for the Championships. Thank you Dave for the hard work.
With the help of the Tournament Directors, Barbara and Brian, and the Tournament Committee, the tournament came to a successful completion with finals on Friday and two sessions Saturday.
Thank you Barbara, Brian, Dave, Ty, Mike, Keith for the hard work you all put in during the week. Thank you to the ladies who sold the programs and raffle tickets, the first aid lady for their help during the week..
The Victrix Ludorum was won by Huntingdonshire.
I thank all our sponsors, your sponsorship is appreciated by members of the English Bowling Federation.
Finally I thank all the EBF, EWBF, EBUF and County Officials for all your help and hard work in 2023.
Best wishes to all for 2024.
Beryl Beresford.
