 EWBF Pres24 Irene Ballam

I am delighted to act as your EWBF National President this year 2024.

My thanks must go first to the wonderful County Women at Humberside who nominated me and supported me throughout my “ladder years” as well as all my friends and fellow bowlers at my club Goxhill.

I am very much aware that I am following in the footsteps of remarkable women presidents and I will do my very best to maintain the high standards they have set.

I have served on many committees throughout my professional life and your Federation Committee gets my ten paddle for their level of dedication, courtesy and kindness. Many thanks to all of them. It is also my great good fortune to have Beryl Beresford as my Deputy and Jean Phillips as my Junior Deputy both of whom have served as former National Presidents. They will, of course, keep me in check and no doubt we will have a good time working together along with Trevor Flatt and his team.

I look forward to meeting up with as many of you as possible over the next year and wish you all a successful and enjoyable bowling season.

Irene Ballam
EWBF President 2024.

Fellow, Officers, Bowlers and Friends

It is a great pride and privilege to become your National President for 2024. I would like to thank my county Suffolk and club Halesworth Angel for supporting me on the Presidential ladder. My climb has been a little rougher than expected and I would also like to thank everyone who helped me get through my recent ill health. It exemplifies the best of our great sport. Bowls is a large family and I hope we can make it even larger. I can think of no other sport where a complete beginner could (in theory) beat a world champion. It is a game that can be played and enjoyed almost from cradle to grave. It can be extremely competitive or a leisurely stroll with friends on a sunny afternoon with a cold drink on hand.

I intend to visit as many counties as possible and try to promote Federation Bowls in all it’s forms in gratitude for the joy I’ve received over the past nearly 50 years on the greens.

I wish Irene and both Presidential teams an enjoyable year and I hope everyone gets pleasure from playing our wonderful game.

Trevor Flatt
President, English Bowling Federation 2024
